LwS S1, E2: Early Cameras & Bay View (BV) Tower

This episode features recordings from Bay View Tower in Blasdell, NY. Even though the photograph below were taken in the early 90s, you can get a feel for the power of each train that passed on any of the four tracks in front of BV tower. The track layout around the tower is explained in the episode as well since track 4 would have been the closest to the tower and is seen as just an empty trail in the photographs.

This episode of Living With Steam contains a lot of historical information about Bay View Tower that was provided to me by the late Greg Jandura, former historian of the Western New York Railway Historical Society.

Back in the 90s, when I was working on the script for a documentary I was hoping to produce, the weekly envelopes that arrived in the mail filled with historical essays, newspaper articles, and photographs sent by Greg were something I looked forward to immensely. Greg was a wealth of information and his skills as a historian were superb. I never could have pulled together the historic data I had without his help. The following link will take you to a page that contains his fantastic essay about Bay View Tower which goes into so much more detail than I could ever convey in the podcast.
