John Prophet made his B&O recordings after the trains had left several of their passenger stations on the Buffalo Division. Below are pictures of the Springville, NY Station. John had positioned himself just north of the station, and captured each train as it made a long approach to his vantage point.

The last recording featured in Episode 8 of Living With Steam is of John riding in the cab of B&O engine 5221 as it made its way between Glenwood, NY to East Concord, NY. Below is an image of that engine.

Below is a system map of the B&O showing the Buffalo Division between Buffalo and Pittsburgh. The many station that John visited are clearly shown on the map.

It's amazing that John Prophet was able to capture some B&O 2-6-6-2 KK-class locomotives on the recordings you will hear in Episode 8. Below is an image of the KK Mallets courtesy of American-Rails. Please visit their B&O KK page for more information on these former BR&P locomotives: https://www.american-rails.com/kk.html.

Here are some images of the B&O's facilities in East Salamanca.

Below is a system map of the Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh. Note the many similarities between this and the B&O system map shown earlier. In fact, the B&O's Buffalo Division was simply a take-over of exactly what the BR&P had been using since 1881.

It's unfortunate that John Prophet never recorded a B&O train leaving the DL&W terminal in Buffalo, where both the BR&P and the B&O had passenger facilities.

I encourage you to visit the Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh Facebook page for additional information and pictures of the BR&P and B&O railroads.
